In Borderlands 3 and Horizon: Zero Dawn, where the Legion 5 Pro is slower, it still delivers 94 percent and 81 percent of the performance of the Duo. The Legion 5 Pro’s RTX 3070 is two to 22 percent faster than the Zephyrus Duo’s RTX 3080 in three of the five games I tested. These competing devices lack dual displays and a 300 Hz refresh rate (they get FHD 240 Hz and 2K 165 Hz displays respectively), but with prices ranging from Rs 1.4 - 1.8 lakh, there’s no question as to which side the value argument leans.
While the previous Duo easily outclassed similarly specced devices in 2020, ASUS’ own Tuf F15 and the recently launched Lenovo Legion 5 Pro are delivering similar (and sometimes, better) performance for half the price. This is great, but there’s also a problem: at Rs 2,99,999, the Duo 15SE is nearly twice the price of most premium gaming laptops. So far, I am happy with the machine and I am really glad I returned the MSI and waited for Duo 16 to arrive. Every time any windows based application fail to work as expected - need to manually check if there is a Windows/App update Windows is painful when it comes to updates - Microsoft needs to get their shit together with all the restart cycles and applications auto-closing/failing to load without a warning message that update is required. I have a feeling screen whine will get worse and more audible as the laptop ages.
Scaling between lower and upper screen is a bit absurd - doesn't bother me too much, but the resolution on the bottom screen can be changed to match the upper screen. Can easily run games in medium to low setting in eco-mode (zero GPU usage - good for gaming and extending battery life without a power source) Games look vibrant and rich a huge plus for me coming from consoleĬPU is really powerful. HDR display is amazing (primary-screen only). I am not sure if this is already a thing for you PC gamers with massive rigs. Keyboard/Trackpad did not feel hot - though I only played each for 40mins. Laptop does get hot around the fans and below the screen. I played Age of Empires 4, Flight Simulator 2020 & Forza Horizon 5 on ultra. The extended display can be turned into a huge touchpad (with a three-finger tap gesture - needs to be configured) Gestures are very similar to that of a Mac So far, typing has not been an issue (key travel feels great) without the extended support and the small touchpad has all the customizable gestures (three & four fingers). I am a Mac (Apple) person, I love the touchpad and gestures. I will post an update if I somehow trigger that again. Haven't heard since then (even during gaming on Turbo mode). I was playing with power (battery) modes and that seemed to fix it when I switched to eco-mode (GPU receives 0 power - do not quote me on this, only had this machine for less than 12hrs). There was a whining sound from the screen initially, nothing too bad or annoying, only audible if you lean into the machine. Since I touched on that subject, the Armoury Crate is beautiful - has a bit of learning curve in my opinion. I never had any RGB setup and the lighting effects on Armoury Crate just blew my mind. I pre-ordered Asus Duo 16 from B&H and Adorama early May - they were still in backorder when I last cancelled.Ĭoming to this beast, I am loving this laptop so far. I returned it because battery life was abysmal, touchpad had issues and MSI center was a joke. The machine was really heavy and the 17in screen seemed really bad (I guess I am used to HDR on PS5). To shed some context before I begin with a detailed review, I initially bought MSI GE76 - 3080TI because I got tired of waiting and Asus did not respond / have an update.
